Hello World!

I've been a fairly avid reader of blogs but have never really considered myself "blog-worthy."  I decided today to shake off my feelings of insecurity and just go for it!

So welcome to my blog!

Who am I?
My name is Sara and I live in the Tampa Bay area here in sunny Florida.

I have a Bachelor's degree in Anthropology focused on Archaeology with a minor in Medieval History, started Master's degrees in Library Science and Anthropology, and have decided to try my hand at culinary school in the Spring 2011. To say I'm an eccentric jack-of-all-trades is putting it mildly.

I work for the local school system as a substitute teacher, working primarily in middle and high schools. I'm also a seasonal employee at Walt Disney World where I work as a presenter at Innoventions in EPCOT Center, which I picked up after completing the Walt Disney World College Program.

I come from a long line of crafters; both of my grandmothers were amazing seamstresses and artists and my grandfather was a wondrous woodworker. My mother taught me how to sew when I was a girl and I've been sewing ever since. I hope that one day I can be as awesome as she is (but I doubt that's possible!).

About what will I be blogging?
A wide variety of topics! I'm eclectic, eccentric, idiosyncratic, and other things ending in -ic.

I do have some online businesses that I am running, so there will be posts about my projects and things related to my shops on Etsy and Artfire. But constant sales pitches are, to be totally frank, awfully annoying. I'll try to keep those sorts of things at being no more than 2-3 times a week (even that seems like overkill now, but I can get enthusiastic at times).

I simply LOVE food! Cooking, restaurants, recipes, you name it, I adore it! So I'll definitely be dabbling in the culinary-type realm of discussion.

I'm also a nut for travel and world cultures (hence the whole spending far too much money on a degree in Anthropology thing), so I will definitely post about my travels, places I want to go, and so on.

Random Stuff! I admit it, I'm weird and have a variety of interests, so odds are there will be some random-ish posts about stuff that I happen to be thinking about at the moment.

So that's not too bad for a first post, I should imagine. It's somewhat weird to be essentially just typing to myself at this point, haha.

  1. I have to ask: How do you like Artfire? I'm only an Etsy girl thus far, and I don't really know enough about Artfire to decide if I should be on both. Are your sales similar?

Good luck with this blogging endeavor!

  2. I love food too >< You know I never knew that your grandfather was an amazing woodworker. I am intrigued haha. Good luck with blogging, it's a lot like a diary I suppose...except with out all of the dark secrets in a real diary. :)

  3. Hi Jaclyn! Artfire has been okay. I've had scads more views in a faster time frame than on Etsy, but no sales yet. I'm going to stick it out through the holidays and see how it goes. You could always try out the free version?

Hi Linda! Thanks for the good luck; it does feel a lot like a diary, but definitely weirder, haha. :D
